Wedding Wednesday: Choosing Your Colors

“What are your wedding colors?” It’s probably one of the top asked questions when people find out you’re engaged, second maybe to venue or what your dress looks like. And for a good reason, too. The colors you choose have a way of defining the style and atmosphere of your wedding. Colors play a huge role in emotion, so choosing a color palette to suit the mood and and style you envision is a crucial step in planning.

In recent years, it’s been most common to pick two colors. I chose two colors for my own wedding because that’s what I had always heard other brides respond with. And while there is nothing wrong with picking two colors, the truth is that your wedding will be based around more than just two colors. Most weddings actually have 4 to 5 colors included in the color palette: 2 main colors and 2 or 3 accent colors. The accent colors are what most people don’t plan on.

Using my wedding as an example, I consciously picked the colors pink and green. Unconsciously my accent colors became white and black. Because if I had LITERALLY only made things either green or pink, let’s just say that would be a tacky eyesore! You need the accent colors to break up and add contrast to the main colors.

I used the color black for all the writing on paper goods (invitations, place cards, menus, etc.) and white linens.

Though my flowers were primarily pink and green, I had some white as well, and I used a black and white ribbon around the stems.

To give a strong visual, imagine if I had used a pink tablecloth instead of white for the reception!! Talk about an eyesore.

Now, this isn’t to say that brides are literally picking two colors and there are tacky weddings everywhere. Not at all! The point of this is to bring awareness to the accent colors, and help you to think about them. Had I actually thought about my accent colors, I don’t know if I would have gone with different colors or if I would have stayed with black and white, but it would have been nice to have the option.

So, if you are in the process choosing colors, think about the accents! Here are two fabulous websites that can be great in helping you decide: Design Seeds and Colour Lovers. Design Seeds is run by a woman with amazing taste in color palettes. She adds new themes daily, based on beautiful photographs. It’s a great place to get inspiration, and you can search palettes by color, season, and several other categories. Colour Lovers is an awesome website where you can join and create your own palettes, playing around with any and every color imaginable. And you can also search palettes made by other members.

I’ll leave you with a few pretty palettes for inspiration!

The Dreaded Passport Photo

This morning I looked over my to-do list for the week to plan out my daily schedule. My eyes scanned over list, mentally putting things in order as I went along. I was nearing the end of the list when one caught my eye and I paused. Actually, like shuttered. I groaned, too, though I’m not sure if it was out loud or in my head. This week I need to get a new passport.

It’s not because the process for getting a new passport  is drawn out and confusing. It’s not because of the hefty fee they make you pay. It’s not even because I’ll be losing the stamps from my trip to Italy in college and my honeymoon in St. Lucia. It’s because of the PICTURE.

The nasty fluorescent lighting. The horrible, pixel-y camera. The unflattering angle. The awkward smile. (Are you even supposed to smile anymore?) I always end up either looking like I’m 5 or looking like I’m ill. And don’t even get me started on driver’s license photos. All I’m saying is, wouldn’t you think they’d want ID photos to be really good? Wouldn’t they want to look at it and see an ACTUAL representation of the person and not some discolored and distorted photo? CAN I GET AN AMEN?! (Clearly this is a sensitive subject for me.)

Although, maybe it’s a good thing. My last passport picture is so horrible it couldn’t possibly get worse. (Knock on wood.) I have a new chance to try and remember to tilt me head little, keep my chin down, make my eyes bright, give a cute smile… (If you’re supposed to smile. Still haven’t figured that one out.)

Oh the dreaded passport photo.

(If you thought I was going to show you the awful photo you must be outta yo mind! Haha.)

And I don’t want to forget… Thank you so much to everyone who gave me some new songs to run to!!! I definitely added a few of those to my playlist :) You guys rock. Unfortunately, though, only one can win, and thanks to random.org the winner of the iTunes giftcard is Kevin Markowitz!!!!! Congrats Kevin!! Hopefully this will help you add some new songs to your workout playlist :) Happy Monday folks!

Friday Fun Facts

Not only is it Friday, it’s also the 27th of April. As in, it will be May in just 4 days. Where did this month go?! At this rate, it’s going to be 2013 in like two weeks. And yes, I do believe there will be a 2013, and that the world will not be ending on December 21. But that’s an entirely different blog post… So before I get too carried away, let’s get down to a few fun facts for your Friday, shall we?

1. If you want your clothes to smell amazing, use Gain Apple Mango Tango. Best smelling stuff ever.

2. You might remember my Sundance Film Festival post where I talked about my favorite movie, Safety Not Guaranteed. Well, it’s coming to the big screen!!! SO pumped. Go see it. You won’t regret it.

3. Apparently you weigh less at the top of a mountain then at sea level. That is reason enough for me to live in Park City.

4. It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes having a clean workspace vs. a messy workspace. If you’re a creative person and you’re in a slump, make sure your workspace is clean. And maybe add some fresh flowers. That never hurts either.

5. If you’re a solid PB&J lover like me, try toasting it. Toasting a PB&J brings the sandwich up a whole new level.

6.  Falling asleep to rain almost always guarantees a good night’s sleep.

7. 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321. As someone who is not math minded, like, at all, this is a total mind blow.

8. I’ll end with this… My college roommate and wonderful friend Sara posted this on my wall the other day and I just about died laughing at it. Particularly because we lovingly refer to my hair as Simba’s mane. And this ad is a legitimate portrayal of what it looks like when I straighten my hair. Those of you with a similar main, you feel my pain. Haha.

Happy Friday and have a fabulous weekend!!

Totally missed this when you posted it the first time. I’m stoked I made the blog. :)

Rules of the Game

“It’s just that… well… you can’t beat me if you do it. Ok?”

I blinked sheepishly a few times, embarrassed that I had actually just admitted it out loud. Jake looked at me, a slight grin slowly started to spread across his face, and then he busted out in laughter.

“I’m serious!! It’s just that, running is sort of my thing! I mean, how would YOU feel if you had been training for a big mountain bike race and then one day I just decided to do it with you and totally beat you?!”

You see, Jake bikes. I run. It’s how we’ve always been. Sure we like to take walks and hike together, but when it comes down to nitty gritty cardio, I run. He bikes. That’s just how it is.

So when I told him I’m thinking about running the Park City Marathon again, and he told me he might like to join me this year, my guard went up. Because not only does he bike and I run, I’m also a bit competitive. Actually, that might be the understatement of the year. I’m carnivorously, no mercy, draw blood kind of competitive. Let’s just say Jake happened to beat me in a game of one-on-one basketball a few years ago. We haven’t played again since. It’s just best for our marriage….

ANYWAY. Here I was, pathetically requesting him not to beat me if he decides to run it. The great thing about Jake, though? He agreed. Yes, he thinks it’s hilarious, and we both know how ridiculous my rule is. Believe me, I KNOW how absurd it is. But he also knows how utterly disappointed I would be if I lost, ridiculous or not. So he agreed. And THAT, my friends, is why I love him.

All that being said, I need your help!!! I figure if I train hard enough, he won’t be able to beat me, even he tries ;) So, how can you help? I need some new tunes for my running playlist!! What are your new (or old) favorite jams to get you pumped??  What’s your go-to song during a workout? Leave me a comment and let me know!

And as an extra incentive, I’ll give $20 in iTunes to one lucky commenter! I figure, help a sister out and I’ll help you out ;) Just leave a comment with your song(s), and a winner will randomly be picked on Monday. Ready, set, go!

Park City Anytime: Cheryl

Meet Cheryl, my wonderful cousin! She moved to good ole Park City this passed winter, and I have absolutely loved having her here. Being this close I’m starting to get to know her on a deeper level, and it has totally enriched me. She has such a beautiful heart, and her kind spirit rubs off on everyone she’s around! I’m just glad she’ll be around for a while now, so that she can keep rubbing off on me ;) This past weekend we had some Golden Delicious light that I simply couldn’t let go to waste (seriously, the light was AMAZING), so Cheryl kindly obliged and spent a little time in front of my camera. Enjoy some of my faves!

Cheryl, thanks for going out on a whim, putting up with my crazy antics, and rocking it in front of my camera! To me, these pictures prove that you are as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. I’m so thankful we have this time together, and I can’t wait to see what God does next in your life! Xo.
