Winners and Sweethearts

You know that feeling when you come to the end of a really good book? You enjoyed reading it the whole time and you’re happy with the ending, but when it’s over, you have that now what am I supposed to do with every spare moment of my life?! feeling in your gut? That’s sort of happening to me right now. Haha. I had SO much fun putting on this contest with Louise! For real. Even though there were a few bumps to smooth out, it was an awesome experience and I’d definitely do it again! Next year? I think maybe so… But I’m getting ahead of myself : ) We have ourselves a winner! Thanks so much to everyone who voted!!! It was incredible to see all the votes pouring in, and it was a nail-biter right to the very end… Only 26 votes determined the final outcome! So without further ado:

Congratulations to

Shelly and Ryan!!!!!

I can’t WAIT to meet you guys and celebrate your love! I’ll be emailing you shortly : )

I hope everyone has a wonderful day full of love!! Me? I’ve got myself a hot date and a new dress, so I think I’m set ; ) Plus, how can it be a bad day when you find in this in a bag of Sweethearts?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Friday Fun Facts

I had one of those my life just flashed before my eyes! moments this week. While Utah didn’t necessarily get hit with the “Snowpocolypse” that hit the midwest, Park City had a pretty decent little snow fall at the beginning of the week (and by little I mean schools still would have been shut down in the midwest with this much snow). I was driving our big truck, which usually makes me feel invincible. Actually, my little blonde haired self probably looks pretty out of place driving it, but I like feeling so big and macho! Ha. Anyways. I was in a fairly hilly neighborhood, and it got steep. I was going downhill, and then a sharp turn came…

Yeah. Apparently I was going a little too fast because before I knew it I was sliding towards a huge snowbank on the side of someone’s yard. Here’s the best part, in the snowbank there was a BIG fire hydrant. And the whole life flashing before my eyes? It wasn’t because I thought I was going to get it hurt. Oh no. It was Jake will kill me if I dent the truck!! I mean, that thing is his baby. His pride and joy. The peas to his carrots. Or maybe I should say the A1 sauce to his steak. He doesn’t eat vegetables.

Fortunately, the snowbank was thick enough that it stopped me a few feet before the fire hydrant. And when I called Jake to tell him about it, he just laughed and told me to drive carefully. All I could think was You wouldn’t be laughing if I had hit the fire hydrant! But I’m verrry thankful that I didn’t… And I drove slower than turtle the rest of the way home, lesson definitely learned. Which brings me to this month’s Friday Fun Facts!

1. Respect the snow. Seriously.

2. That being said, when it is extremely snowy out while driving, that doesn’t mean all the rules of the road are suddenly thrown out the window. There are STILL lanes….

3. Youth Group retreats are awesome.

4. Downy Wrinkle Release spray can really be a lifesaver in a pinch.

5. If you have a garage that can be opened by a key pad, you might want to take the sticker off of the inside of the key pad that tells anyone who reads it how to change the code. Just a thought.

6. There are few sounds in the world that would rank worse than the sound of an alarm clock. Very few.

7. If you are forgetful and happen to leave freshly made pancakes sitting on the counter for a while, don’t worry. They’ll still be good 5 hours later.

8. Having a good pair of running shoes makes a huge difference. If you are getting into running, invest in a good pair. You won’t regret it.

9. Oreos dipped in milk is wonderful, that’s no secret. But have you ever tried dipping them in warm milk?

10. The Superbowl wouldn’t be half as fun to watch without all the commercials.

I didn’t really care who won, I just hoped it would be a good game (which it was), and that there would be good commercials! It’s the one day a year that Tivo isn’t necessary. My family definitely ranks commercials as they come, although sometimes we disagree (my dad and my brother thought the Doritos commercial was hilarious, while my mom was slightly appalled. And me? I thought their reactions were funnier than the commercial). I’m pretty sure we came to an agreement on the best commercial, though. At least, this was definitely MY favorite : )

What was your favorite?? Have a great weekend!!

(And don’t forget to vote for your favorite couple!! Voting ends TONIGHT at 9:59pm Utah time!)

Emily - February 11, 2011 - 8:55 am

That was my favorite commercial, too!

David Terry - February 11, 2011 - 10:02 am

I bet his first question was “are you okay” … because beyond that, nothing else really matters. Trucks are replaceable.

Haha… good one on the garage door opener. :)

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

How can I begin this? Well, if you haven’t already seen, Louise wrote it perfectly, but I thought I’d post too, in case anyone missed it.

Once the finalists of the contest were announced, the voting took off like a blazing forest fire. Seriously. I figured at the end of the week the winner would have, oh, I don’t know, around 5,000 votes. By the end of the first day, however, some were over 10,000 votes. And by end of the second day, some were over 50,000. Yeah, FIFTY THOUSAND. Talk about a mind blow. Remember, people could vote as many times as they wanted, so it didn’t mean that 50,000 people had voted. What it did mean, though, is that many people had sacrificed long hours and tired fingers voting away for their favorite couple. Unfortunately, it also meant that “bots” were involved. Voting robots that continuously voted and would continue to vote until the poll was taken offline. I can’t imagine how high the numbers would have been had we let it continue.

What started out as fun contest with nothing but good intentions, turned bad when complaining about the voting began, and got ugly when bots became involved. Because that’s not fair. At all. And above all else, Louise and I just want this to be fair. And fun. Fair and fun.

So we’re starting the voting over. Completely. Because it just wouldn’t be fair to count all those votes that were hacked, and there’s almost no way of tracking them. There’s also no way to blame anyone. Don’t go there, please. I hope no one goes there. If anything, I’m going to take it as a compliment and be flattered that someone would go that far just for me to photograph their wedding ; ) Honestly though, it’s just a sad situation and I’m sorry it had to come to this.

I’m sorry for those of you who voted fairly, diligently, passionately. I’m sorry for any time lost. Any stress, anxiety, and anger that was felt. I know it has probably left a sour taste in a lot of mouths. But Louise and I worked hard to come up with a solution that will hopefully sweeten the situation. We’re not disqualifying anyone (again, no one is to blame), and we’re starting a new voting system that will be fair. Because the contestants deserve that, as do their faithful voters.

To vote, all you have to do is send an email to DulceContest@gmail.com, and put your couple’s names in the title of the email AND in the body of the email. The voting will end tomorrow, February 11, at 11:59pm Eastern time, which is 9:59pm here in Utah. No votes received after that will count. Not too hard, right? And not nearly as time consuming as voting over and over again!  Oh and one last thing. Only ONE vote per email address. No voting over and over with the same account, please : )

So that’s it! I’m truly sorry again for any heartache this has caused. It was not intentional in the least bit. For those of you who were voting before, I hope you’ll vote again.

And don’t worry. Because the best part of this new voting scenario?? Frisky approves!!

(Or maybe he’s just happy that now I can come take a nap with him.)

Happy Voting (again)!

Park City Anytime: The Kimble Family

Moments. Real ones. The ones where maybe they’re not looking into the camera, or maybe they’re unaware that a camera is even there. Moments in between the posing, the smile and say cheese. Moments unfolding naturally, frozen in time with the click of a shutter. Real, untouched moments. Those are my favorite. Hands down.

I had the pleasure of shooting the whole Kimble Family recently (I say whole because maybe you remember this shoot with Mark, Lauren, and Crew last fall. This time it was grandparents, parents, and kids). And as I was looking through them, I realized that, at least for me, the shots that were making me smile most were the ones that weren’t planned. The ones that just… happened. So this post might look slightly different than others. It’s all moments. Enjoy : )

Sorry, Kimbles, if this embarrasses any of you! It was just too great not to post : )

How great are these dance moves?! : )

Always kids at heart!

In case you’re wondering, that is a massive hunk of cookie dough. Haha.

I’ll finish with this. Lauren has it hanging above their table and I absolutely love it.

Happy Wednesday!

Jess Curren - February 9, 2011 - 10:23 am

LOVE it! Those are hands-down my favorite photos too!

Sarah - February 9, 2011 - 11:07 am

Carissa, these photos are absolutely wonderful. I love how you captured a family in mid-play (not that there can be any other kind of moment in a family with that many babies the same age running around)!

Carissa - February 9, 2011 - 9:13 pm

Aww thanks so much you two!! : )

Emily - February 10, 2011 - 9:38 am

SOOOOOOOOO Adorable! I love the cuteness all around!

Contest Finalists!

Alright, how to even start this… First of all, thank you SO much to everyone that entered! It was so much fun to read all of your answers, to see photos of you and your love, and to be given a peek into your incredible weddings. I’m pretty sure anyone who puts on a giveaway says they wish everyone could win, but I’m going to say it. And mean it from the bottom of my heart. I truly wish everyone could win. Picking the finalists was seriously one of the most stressful things I have ever done. Just ask Louise! I literally didn’t make my final decision until this morning. That’s right, THIS MORNING. (Being indecisive doesn’t help.) But everyone was so awesome, so deserving in their own respect! So thank you again for the awesome entires. And please remember that if you weren’t picked, I’m extending a 10% discount on any 2011 Wedding Collection for you guys! If you are interested, please email me at dulcephoto(at)gmail.com. I’d love to hear from you!

I also want to say thank you to the many people who blogged, tweeted, facebooked (is that a word? I’m making it a word), and helped spread the news about this contest! In particular, thanks to The Broke-Ass Bride, Snippet & Ink, My Hands Made It, Ashley’s Bride Guide, and Big Spoon + Little Spoon!! And if I’ve forgotten anyone, thanks to you, too : )

Lastly, a big, fat, huge thank you to Louise. Thank you for brainstorming with me, laughing with me, putting up with my crazy ideas and indecisiveness, and for being an incredible friend. This contest wouldn’t have been possible without you!!

Ok. The moment you’ve all been waiting for… The Finalists!!! Drumroll………. (In no particular order):
